Set out on a 14-day trip through Portugal that blends lively cities, small towns and time to unwind along the coast. Begin in Lisbon, where historic neighbourhoods, a pastel de nata baking class and an evening of Fado music bring the city to life. Travel to Cascais and Sintra’s hilltop palace before continuing to Caldas da Rainha and nearby Óbidos. In Évora, explore Roman ruins, whitewashed streets and local traditions, including a visit to an eco-cork factory. Continue south to the Algarve, with time to relax between coastal views, local flavours and a hands-on farm-to-table experience.

Travellers who will truly enjoy this type of tour prefer more physical activity for extended periods. Tours may include walking tours between 1–3 km, uneven terrain, steep inclines, climbing stairs (some without railings) and longer periods of standing.

Algarve Farm & Tapas Experience
Spend time at a local organic farm, where a variety of fruits and vegetables are grown using traditional methods. You’ll be welcomed with a refreshing selection of natural orange juice, homemade lemonade, water and freshly baked cookies before setting out on a guided tour of the farm. Along the way, sample a range of products and learn how to prepare Portuguese mixed tapas using these fresh, locally grown ingredients. The experience concludes with a delicious tapas lunch served with drinks in a relaxed countryside setting.

Portugal Discovery
Spend 14 days exploring Portugal’s highlights, from Lisbon and Sintra to Évora and the Algarve, with local flavours and music plus time to unwind.
Day 1
Depart Toronto or Winnipeg on your overnight flight to Lisbon.
Day 2
Lisbon – On arrival, meet your tour guide and transfer to your hotel for early check-in. The remainder of the day is at leisure before a welcome dinner at a nearby restaurant. (D)
Day 3
Lisbon – Explore Old Lisbon and its historic downtown, then enjoy a pastel de nata cooking masterclass to learn this beloved Portuguese treat. (B/T)
Day 4
Lisbon – Visit the Belém district, including Belém Tower and the Hieronymites Monastery. This evening, enjoy a traditional Fado show. (B)
Day 5
Caldas da Rainha –Travel to Cascais, known for its 19th-century villas, marina and beaches. Continue to Sintra to visit Sintra National Palace, then on to Caldas da Rainha, famed for its produce market and ceramics. (B/D)
Day 6
Caldas da Rainha – Visit Praça da Fruta market, then explore the medieval town of Óbidos. Continue to Batalha to see its UNESCO-listed monastery, known for Gothic architecture and intricate stonework. (B/L)
Day 7
Évora – Travel to Setúbal to visit a local farmers’ market with time for lunch, then continue to Évora in the Alentejo region. (B/D)
Day 8
Évora – Explore Évora’s UNESCO-listed centre, including the Roman Temple, Gothic cathedral and Chapel of Bones. Visit a local eco-cork factory to learn how this sustainable product is made. (B)
Day 9
Albufeira – Travel to the Algarve, stopping at an organic olive oil farm to learn about production and sample local oils. Continue to Albufeira for a five-night stay. (B/T/D)
Day 10
Albufeira – A day at leisure to rest and relax. (B)
Day 11
Albufeira – Visit an organic farm to sample fresh products and take part in a hands-on tapas cooking class, followed by lunch. (B/T/L)
Day 12
Albufeira – Enjoy a day at leisure to explore or relax. (B)
Day 13
Albufeira – Free time during the day before a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B/D)
Day 14

Extraordinary Explorations vacations are organized and booked by CAA Travel (South Central Ontario) Inc. and CAA Manitoba (“CAA Travel”) on behalf of CAA Club Group (o/a CAA South Central Ontario and CAA Manitoba). In the event of an increase in any of the cost factors, CAA Travel reserves the right to increase the price whereby the provisions of the Travel Industry Act shall prevail. Deposit is non-refundable at the time of booking. Final payment is due 120 days before departure. CAA Extraordinary Explorations packages are 100% non-refundable at final payment. CAA Travel service fee for cancellation prior to final payment varies by program. For full payment terms and conditions, please ask your CAA Travel Consultant. CAA Travel reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements (minimum number of participants) or circumstances beyond its control. Caldas da Rainha
Travel beyond Lisbon to the elegant coastal town of Cascais, known for its 19th-century villas, marina and sandy beaches. Continue to the fairytale village of Sintra to visit Sintra National Palace. From here, journey onward to Caldas da Rainha, famed for its vibrant produce market and ceramics. (B/D)

Caldas da Rainha
Start the day at the lively Praça da Fruta market before visiting the medieval town of Óbidos, with its preserved walls and charming streets lined with small shops. Continue to nearby Batalha, home to the impressive Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its Gothic architecture and intricate stonework. (B/L)
Day 7
Évora
Drive to Setubal, south of Lisbon, and visit the bustling local farmers’ market with time to pick up lunch. Continue to Évora, a historic city and cultural centre of the Alentejo region. (B/D)
Day 8
Évora
Featuring fortress walls towering over cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses, historic Roman sites and a culturally significant food scene, this whole town has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the city’s historic centre with the ancient Roman Temple of Évora (or Temple of Diana), the massive Gothic cathedral, the Royal Church of St. Francis with the unusual Chapel of Bones, constructed by Franciscan monks and decorated with human skeletons. Visit a local eco-cork factory to see how this sustainable, environmentally friendly product is processed. (B)
Day 9
Albufeira
On the way to the Algarve on the south coast, stop at an organic olive oil farm to watch the olives being processed and sample a variety of their locally produced oils. Continue to Albufeira, where you’ll settle in for a five-night stay. (B/T/D)
