Traditional Newfoundland Musical Kitchen Party
Take part in one of the liveliest traditions from Canada’s East Coast. Activity Level: Moderate. Explore the culture and charm of the East Coast on this nine-day adventure through Newfoundland and the French islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.
Day 1
St. John’s – Depart from Toronto or Winnipeg to St. John’s. Upon arrival, meet your tour director and transfer to the hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure.
Day 2
St. John’s – Take a city tour of Canada’s oldest city, St. John’s. See Quidi Vidi village and Signal Hill. (B)
Day 3
St. John’s – Excursion to Bay Bulls with boat tour and stop at Cape Spear National Historic Site. Later, your Extraordinary Experience introduces you to the lively fun of a traditional East Coast kitchen party. (B/D)
Day 4
Clarenville – En route to Clarenville, you’ll visit Hawthorne Cottage National Historic site, Harbour Grace and Heart’s Content Cable Station Provincial Historic Site. (B/D)
Day 5
Saint-Pierre and Miquelon – Transfer to the village of Fortune and take the ferry to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, a group of islands that are part of France and feature French food, customs and currency. Upon arrival in Saint-Pierre, walk to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure. (B/D)
Day 6
Saint-Pierre – Depart to L’Île Aux Marins by ferry and take a guided walking tour of the island. Optional visit to the Archipélitude Museum included. (B)
Day 7
Saint-Pierre – Depart for Miquelon Island by ferry for a full-day island tour. (B/L/D)
Day 8
St. John’s – In the morning, tour the island of Saint-Pierre. Later, fly back to St. John’s. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner with the group. (B/D)
Day 9
Transfer to the St. John’s airport for your return flight home to Toronto or Winnipeg. (B)

Extraordinary Explorations vacations are organized and booked by CAA Travel (South Central Ontario) Inc. and CAA Manitoba (“CAA Travel”) on behalf of CAA Club Group (o/a CAA South Central Ontario and CAA Manitoba). In the event of an increase in any of the cost factors, CAA Travel reserves the right to increase the price whereby the provisions of the Travel Industry Act shall prevail. Deposit is non-refundable at the time of booking. Final payment is due 120 days before departure. CAA Extraordinary Explorations packages are 100% non-refundable at final payment. CAA Travel reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements (minimum number of participants) or circumstances beyond its control. Please note: Participants must be able to embark and disembark cruise ships and coaches without assistance as well as have a good level of mobility for walking tours in destinations where stairs and traditional cobblestone streets can be challenging. International transportation vehicles and facilities may not meet accessibility standards.

Day 1
Depart from Toronto or Winnipeg to St. John’s. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your tour director and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure.
Day 2
St. John’s
Your city tour this morning will immerse you in the history and culture of St. John’s, Canada’s oldest and most distinctive city. Rising spectacularly from the water’s edge, St. John’s combines a modern city with small-town hospitality. See the quaint side streets filled with brightly coloured houses, the Victorian architecture of the downtown area and the busy modern waterfront. Marvel at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the Statue of the Blessed Mother and the stately Confederation building. Wander the charming Quidi Vidi village, then take in the panoramic view from Signal Hill. Return to your hotel where the rest of the day is free to explore on your own. (B)
Day 3
St. John’s
This morning, travel to Bay Bulls for one of the highlights of your trip: a boat tour to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve (weather permitting). The reserve contains North America's largest Atlantic puffin colony with more than 260,000 pairs of the province's official bird nesting here during the late spring and summer. The reserve also hosts the second-largest Leach's storm-petrel colony in the world. The waters around Bay Bulls and the Reserve are a favourite feeding area for the annual migration of the humpback whales that make their way to the waters of Newfoundland each summer. All your senses will be delighted during an educational and entertaining boat tour. Later you’ll visit the most easterly point in North America, Cape Spear National Historic Site, where the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland is located. It’s been restored to its 1839 appearance and shows how a lightkeeper and his family might have lived in the mid-19th century. Tonight, your Extraordinary Experience introduces you to the lively fun of a traditional East Coast kitchen party. (B/D)
Day 4
Clarenville
Depart St. John’s this morning to explore the Baccalieu Trail on the peninsula between Conception Bay and Trinity Bay. Stop in the charming village of Brigus and visit Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site, home of Captain Bob Bartlett, the ice pilot who guided Robert Peary on his polar expedition in 1908. Stop by Harbour Grace, where Amelia Earhart began her solo flight across the Atlantic in 1932, then visit Heart’s Content Cable Station Provincial Historic Site where the first successful transatlantic cable was received in 1866. Make your way to the Clarenville area where you’ll stay the night. (B/D)
Day 5
Saint-Pierre
This morning we depart Clarenville and head south onto the beautiful Burin Peninsula via the famous “Heritage Run” route, ending at the village of Fortune, the departure point for our ferry to the French Islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. These are two groups of islands with a fascinating maritime history. They are technically a part of France off the coast of Newfoundland, so the islands have a European feel, French is the primary language, and you’ll find French food, customs and currency. Upon arrival in Saint-Pierre, walk to your hotel where you’ll stay the next three nights. (B/D)
Day 6
Saint-Pierre
Take a short ferry ride to L’Île Aux Marins. Upon arrival you’ll enjoy a guided walk and learn about the heyday of the Grand Banks and inshore fisheries. Step back in time with a visit to some of the island’s historical buildings like the Archipélitude Museum to see photos and artifacts from the past and hear stories about Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Upon your return to Saint-Pierre, visit the L’Arche Museum and Archives. (B)
Day 7
Saint-Pierre
Full-day tour to the island of Miquelon, which is connected to Langlade by a 7.5-mile-long sand isthmus (called the Dune), which was the scene of many shipwrecks. Since the 19th century, these islands have become the centre of the archipelago’s crop and animal-based agricultural activities, in addition to an important coastal fishing spot. Scallops, lobster, goose and duck foie gras are just some of the delicious specialty foods on these islands. If you’re looking for tranquility, hiking and nature observation, you’ll want to discover Miquelon-Langlade, a little paradise rich in plant and animal life, with endless landscapes studded with ponds, beaches and hills. St. John’s
In the morning, tour the island of Saint-Pierre. Later, fly back to St.John’s. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner with the group. (B/D)
