Alaska’s Indigenous Traditions: A Guided Walk

Activity Level: Moderate. Follow the trails of gold rush dreamers and wildlife explorers by train, riverboat and cruise on this 16-day trip through Alaska and the Yukon.
Day 1
Anchorage – Depart Toronto or Winnipeg for Anchorage. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 2
Anchorage – Enjoy a guided city tour, including your Extraordinary Experience at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Explore six life-sized traditional dwellings around Lake Tiulana and learn from a Culture Bearer about Alaska’s Indigenous cultures. Later, transfer to your hotel and meet your tour director. (B)
Day 3
Denali National Park – Board the McKinley Explorer’s luxurious domed rail cars to Denali for a three-night stay. (B)
Day 4
Denali National Park – Experience the unforgettable Tundra Wilderness Tour, a fully narrated 5- to 6-hour excursion deep into Denali National Park. (B/S)
Day 5
Denali National Park – Spend the day exploring on your own. Consider a visit to Denali Square to take in the beautiful scenery. (B)
Day 6
Fairbanks – Journey to Fairbanks, Alaska’s Golden Heart City. Cruise the Chena River aboard the historic sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery. (B/L)
Day 7
Dawson City – Fly to Dawson City, a Klondike Gold Rush town with boardwalks, frontier charm and riverfront views. (B)
Day 8
Dawson City – Visit the original Discovery Claim and Gold Dredge 4 with a Parks Canada guide. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 9
Whitehorse – Follow the Klondike trail to Whitehorse, with a scenic lunch stop along the way. (B/L)
Day 10
Skagway – Continue along the historic trail to Skagway. Board the White Pass Summit train for a dramatic mountain ride. (B)

Skagway – Enjoy a full free day. Perhaps visit Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park or explore at your own pace. (B)

Skagway – Bid farewell to your tour director. Spend the day exploring before boarding the Koningsdam for a 4-night cruise. (B)

Travel to Alaska’s Golden Heart City and take a step back in time aboard the sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery. Known as the Golden Heart, Fairbanks is a gateway to the arctic, boasting lively festivals, river cruises and the chance to see Northern Lights. (B/L)

Dawson City
Depart Fairbanks on a short flight to Dawson City. Once the pulsing heart of the Klondike Gold Rush, Dawson City today is a cluster of wooden sidewalks and charming frontier-era shops on the banks of the Yukon River. (B)
Day 8
Dawson City
This morning see the original Discovery Claim that triggered the Klondike Gold Rush. Enjoy time at Gold Dredge 4 while a Parks Canada guide shares the history of gold dredging in the area. The afternoon is at your leisure to explore on your own. (B)

Whitehorse
Follow the route of Klondike gold stampeders in style to Whitehorse, with an included lunch stop. (B/L)

Skagway
Today continue along the Klondike Trail to Skagway. Later, board the historic White Pass Summit train. (B)
